Music Service - Music Note The Milton Keynes Music Service is the Council-run service providing instrumental tuition to around 5,000 students in Milton Keynes' schools. Wider Opportunities For Instrumental Playing

Wider Opportunities 2008 - 2009
All the Primary and Junior Schools in Milton Keynes have been offered the opportunity for classes in year 3 & 4 to have something like recorders, guitar, percussion, keyboard etc as a whole class experience for a year. What is Wider Opportunities

Curriculum Support

The Primary Music Team are providing Curriculum support and training in primary schools in Milton Keynes as well as arranging Inset for NQTs, Music Co-ordinators and non-specialist teachers.
We are continuing to expand resources for teachers to use in the classroom with a new Indian pack being added to the other curriculum packs.
Work is also being undertaken in conjunction with the instrumental teachers, who are delivering Wider Opportunity lessons, in order to link this to the National Curriculum where possible.

Playstrings, Playbrass, Playwind

Commence 8 November 2008

Music Service - young girls playing clarinet.These groups are for students who have recently started learning strings, brass or wind instruments.They are held at the Music Service at Simpson and commence Saturday 8 November.

Gospel Choir

The New Gospel Choir rehearses at Loughton Manor First School Mondays 6.30pm - 8.00pm We are very keen to promote singing within the Music Service and hope that the Gospel Choir becomes a flagship group.

Keyboard Ensembles

We now run two keyboard ensembles.

Beginner Keyboard Ensemble aimed at pupils who have recently started learning is on Fridays 4.00pm - 5.00pm.
Junior Keyboard Ensemble aimed at pupils have been learning for 1 year or more is on Thursdays 5.00pm - 6.00pm. (time changed from 4.00pm from September 2008)

Symphony Orchestra

The Music Service Symphony Orchestra is the most advanced orchestra within the Music Service, catering for students of Grade 6 standard and above for wind and brass players, and Grade 5 and above for string players. Entry is by audition.

Midsummer Players is the Music Service's adult orchestra who meet on a Monday evening at the City Church.

The Music Service now offers organ lessons, suitable for anyone who has achieved approximately Grade 3 standard on piano, Study Programme 3 (keyquest 3) on keyboard or beyond.

Friends Of Milton Keynes Music Service

We are a friendly group of parents with children of all ages at the Music Service.

Aswell as fundraising for additional instruments etc, we assist by offering various services on a Saturday morning including serving refreshments. Read on for how we have contributed during the last year.

Informal Keyboard Concert

Friday 5 December 2008 Two concerts will take place at Simpson Church. These concerts give students learning the keyboard the opportunity to perform and are held 2 to 3 times a year.

The Music Service's premier brass band, Stantonbury Brass, will be giving their usual Christmas celebration concert at Olney Church of St Peter and St Paul.

String, Brass and Woodwind Festivals

5/6/11 March 2009
The Music Service will hold it's annual String, Brass and Woodwind Festivals on three mornings in March at the Church of Christ the Cornerstone. Each of the festivals are normally very well attended by groups of players from Milton Keynes Schools and the standard of playing is very high.
