Physical abuse is the most visible form of abuse and most likely (with sexual abuse) to give rise to criminal charges. Injuries include black eyes, cut lips, bruising, fractures, deafness, blindness, internal bleeding, missing teeth, persistent ill health, miscarriages, and injuries to a foetus and death. Injury sites are often concealed by clothing or hair.

The Code was formulated in 1999 by MK Violence Against Women and Children Working Party.
The different types of abuse

The Forum was founded in February 1986. It was known as the “Violence against Women and Children Working Party” until 2000.It consists of representatives, many at a strategic level, from agencies in Milton Keynes that are involved in tackling Domestic Violence.

Milton Keynes Women's Aid is a local charity affiliated to Women's Aid Federation England. It provides several services.

If your partner physically hurts you or your children, it is important that you get medical help.

There is an Accident and Emergency Department at the Milton Keynes General Hospital and the staff in that Department are sympathetic in cases of Domestic Violence. The Hospital is a signatory to the local Code of Conduct.
