Places to Visit in and Around Milton Keynes - Chicheley HallThe Royal Society is delighted to announce the refurbishment of Chicheley Hall, due to open in summer 2010. Located just outside Milton Keynes, Chicheley Hall is a unique and historically significant Grade I listed Georgian country house set within 75 acres of glorious gardens and grounds. It was built for Sir John Chester between 1719 and 1724. Ideally situated, it is just one and a half hours by car from central London or 30 minutes by train to Milton Keynes Central Station.

To develop the house into a residential conference and events venue, an extensive refurbishment programme has commenced. The property, which includes a lake and formal gardens, will feature a total of 47 bedrooms.

Located in the main house the north and south wings, the bedrooms will cater for all residential events. Facilities will also include 4 meeting rooms for up to 25 theatre style, and 2 lecture halls for up to 98 theatre style, with one lecture hall featuring tiered seating.

The venue will serve as an extension of The Royal Society’s already existing base in London, to host a wide range of scientific meetings and events. Chicheley Hall will also be open to both commercial and social markets to host events, such as team building, away days, both residential and non residential conferences, meetings and seminars in addition to weddings, social events, and bespoke lunches and dinners.

The refurbishment will see the careful restoration and conservation of the original 18th century architecture, featured throughout the extensive property.

Any profit made from events held at Chicheley Hall will be recycled back into The Royal Society’s work. The Royal Society is at the cutting edge of scientific research, funding more than 2500 of the UK’s best scientists every year by helping them develop their skills and ideas. By holding events at Chicheley Hall, you are helping to support vital scientific progress that will improve the quality of our lives.
