Milton Keynes’ Olympic hero Greg Rutherford had his name all over something else golden this week after a dogs home named one of their pooches after him.
The 25-year-old Olympian from Bletchley not only struck gold in London on Saturday night but his success was marked with Battersea Dogs and Cats Home calling a homeless Golden Retriever 'Rutherford' after the athlete.
His leap of 8.31 metres bagged him the title and it seems staff were just as keen at jumping at the chance of honouring our Greg.
Battersea operations manager, Claire Porteous, said: “The last three days have seen amazing success for Team GB and we’re immensely proud of our athletes. Naming some of our dogs and cats after these sporting heroes is our way of celebrating their achievements and we hope our famously-named dogs and cats will be given extra attention from visitors to the centre.”
