Salden Chase plans are back on the table

Developers are reigniting plans to build the controversial Salden Chase site on the outskirts of the city, MK NEWS can reveal.

In 2010 a consortium of five firms withdrew their plans for around 5,000 homes to the south of Bletchley, near Newton Longville, after widespread opposition.

But now the South West Milton Keynes Consortium, made up of companies including Taylor Wimpey and Connolly Homes, is preparing a fresh application.

This time around the companies are planning to build 1,850 homes on the same site, including affordable housing, a primary school and nursery, a local centre, footpaths and cycle ways, green spaces and an area for employment.

It is estimated the site would create 474 jobs during construction and 700 jobs in retail, education and ‘domestic services’ once built. The employment area could also create 1,470 jobs.

The plans are currently being consulted on with stakeholders including parish councils, and two public exhibitions are set to be held later this year. A timeline will then be set for an official planning application.

Despite these plans being much smaller than the previous proposals, some are concerned more applications could be forthcoming if this one is successful. This is something the consortium denies.

Richard Astle, a spokesman for the consortium, said: “The revised plan is the only application being submitted by the consortium. It has no plans to develop any other area of the site.”

But West Bletchley parish councillor Nigel Long is still concerned. He said: “It would cause massive road problems, it would affect the drainage of the neighbouring areas and the new residents would pay council tax in Aylesbury Vale but use Milton Keynes services.”
