The name, Stacey Bushes comes from the old English “Stumpy Bushes” and Stacey Hill Farm. The streets are named after trees and shrubs. This is one of the few areas that is split between housing and industry. The building began here in 1974. The first housing was a rental scheme giving terraced, semi detached and detached homes. The scheme was awarded an international prize for its landscaping and layout. The sheltered housing and single person housing lies next to the local shop and meeting place.

Two Mile Ash was named after a field and an old ash tree that sat beside the Old A5 Watling Street and was used as an old travellers mark. Many of the streets here are named after golf courses. This is one of the largest grid squares and was one of the first to be built in the post rental housing period. The main spine of the area is the High Street with facilities running off it. There is a lot of variety in the housing. There is a scheme of Findlandia super-insulated houses in Calwen and some very distinctive shared ownership homes in the High Street.

Hodge Lea, named after "Hodge Furze" (gorse) and the streets are named after Highland clearances. Some of the rental housing is built in terraces facing grassy courts with car parking at the rear. The second stage of rental housing was built on the sloping land. The flatter land was reserved for housing for the elderly and a few shared ownership homes.

All three areas have a local shop and children’s play areas.

There is a Meeting Place on Hodge Lea run by the local Residents Association which is used by such groups as the Senior Citizens, Mums and Toddlers and the United Reform Church holds a service there on a Sunday.

Stacey Bushes also has a meeting place used by the local groups and Two Mile Ash has a Community Annexe attached to the Middle School which is in regular use by numerous groups including a Play Group. A second Play Group meets at the Church of the Holy Cross.

Besides the Middle School on Two Mile Ash there is also a First School, Ashbrook, on Two Mile Ash. Two Mile Ash Middle School is a Foundation School (previously “Grant Maintained”) independent of the Local Education Authority. Secondary School age children attend Denbigh School on nearby Shenley Church End. Hodge Lea and Stacey Bushes children are served by Schools on nearby Greenleys and Wolverton. Two Mile Ash has two Churches: The Ecumenical Church of the Holy Cross and the Mormon Church.

Also to be found on Two Mile Ash are: a dental surgery, chemist shop, fish and chip shop, Allotments, a hotel and a golf course which includes driving range and club house. See our sport area for details click here

The factory units at Stacey Bushes were built around 1978. This was later joined by the auto centre which included a drive through Kentucky Fried Chicken and a petrol station.
